Fashion Week Spring 2011 Metallic Hair Color

Posted by: admin on: July 30, 2011

Naive innocence was the inspiration for the hair and makep look at the Spring 2011 Cynthia Rowley show.

Taking a cue from last year’s chunky and bright hair color, Wella Professionals’ celebrity colorist Aura Friedman created icy, metallic extensions to create “futuristic, graphic hair with shine and luminescence.”

Lead stylist Bok-Hee wove the extensions into models’ hair, creating a highlighted effect, instead of a bold chunk of color. She then pulled hair into a classic, side-swept updo. According to Bok-Hee, an asymmetric hairstyle is complimentary to all face shapes because “everyone’s face is a little bit asymmetric, so an asymmetrical hairstyle helps camouflage any flaws.”

Makeup artist Val Garland, working with MAC, wanted to enhance the Twiggy-inspired hair, so she created a childlike makeup look. On the lids she swiped a colorless gloss and on the bottom lashes she applied 20 (!) coats of mascara, adding translucent powder between coats to fatten lashes up. This made eyes look a “little Tammy Faye Baker–we wanted them to look clumsy.”

On the lips, Garland applied dark red lip pigment with a feathery brush, concentrating the color on the inside of the lips to create a “leftover lipstick” effect. On top of this she applied a new product, MAC Kissable Lipcolor in Strut Your Stuff, again concentrating the color on the middle of the lip.”
